Est. 1716 Welcome to Historic Natchez on the Mississippi 2006
In 2006, this sign was purchased and placed on the legal city limits of Natchez, Mississippi to welcome visitors traveling along highway 61 North into the city. However, Natchez was not always the most welcoming city to people of African descent. During slavery, it was home to one of the largest overland slave markets in the U.S. at Forks of the Road in the center of the city.
