Road Trip Countdown: Mt. Sinai Baptist Church

Mt. Sinai Baptist Church
Hwy 61 Sibley, Mississippi
One of the most crucial organizations of southern black communities was the church. It was an organization that granted comfort and support in times of need during slavery and the Jim Crow segregation eras. Mt. Sinai Baptist Church is one of the churches that many former enslaved and their descendants founded, attended and were buried in the church cemetery. This building is the new sanctuary, however the door hanging with the crescent moons and star in the middle is from the original church building.
